If you’re a fan of Google Photos, you may be interested in their new Magic Editor feature. This latest tool uses generative AI technology to enhance your photos to a level comparable to that of Adobe Photoshop. It’s a remarkable innovation in photo editing that could revolutionize the way you approach your digital albums.
What exactly is Magic Editor and how does it work? Simply put, it’s an experimental feature that uses AI to make complex edits to your photos. With this new experimental feature, you can manipulate different parts of your photo with ease. You can easily make edits to your images, including altering features like the sky and adjusting brightness. For instance, you can select an object or subject and move it elsewhere in the photo while the tool generates the background content to compensate for the object’s absence. Magic Editor also allows you to remove or reposition parts of the photo to help recreate the day as you remember it. If the sky looks different from what you remember, you can remove clouds with just one click.
What’s remarkable about Magic Editor is that it can generate new pixels to fill in gaps in the photo, resulting in an edited photo that looks completely natural. This makes it a significant step forward in photo editing technology, as it eliminates the need for professional tools or skills. Although some creases from the deleted bag strap are visible in the first example, the generated balloons and bench in the second example are jaw-dropping. You can watch the I/O video to see for yourself and start at the Magic Editor demo.
During the announcement, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai showcased the tool’s capabilities, including removing a bag strap from a photo and generating missing elements such as the rest of the bench, balloons, and sky that weren’t captured in the original shot. Any adjustments made to the sky lighting are reflected throughout the photograph to maintain consistency.
When can you expect to use Magic Editor? Google stated that Magic Editor will be available as early access to select Pixel phones in 2023. This innovative tool has the potential to revolutionize photo editing and make complex edits accessible to everyone.
