DynamicLake Pro: A smarter way to use the MacBook notch (2026 Update)

Dynamic Island on iPhone is arguably one of the best elements Apple has added to the design. Moreover, the company integrated many features into that element as well. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about the notch on MacBooks, though.

Apple hasn’t really done anything with the notch except place the webcam within it. Even native macOS apps do not interact with the notch, essentially wasting the space. However, DynamicLake Pro is all set to change that.

We recently revisited DynamicLake Pro, testing version 1.9.3 on our M4 MacBook Air to see how much the app has evolved since our original review.

Highlights from the latest update:

  • Live Activities support
  • FaceTime, Zoom, Meet & Teams notifications
  • Dedicated Timer widget
  • Liquid Glass appearance
  • Finder-integrated DynaDrop
  • Multi-file drag & drop
  • Apple Music queue controls
  • Better external display support
  • Improved animations
  • Refined notification system

What Does DynamicLake Pro Do?

DynamicLake Pro essentially converts the area near your MacBook’s notch into an interactive space. Much like its iPhone counterpart, the notch responds when you hover over or click the area.

While no app can change the physical notch itself, DynamicLake Pro cleverly builds an interactive layer around it, making the area feel far more useful. More importantly, DynamicLake Pro turns the notch area into a contextual workspace for macOS. Beyond music playback and daily information, it can surface notifications, ongoing activities, timers, meetings, file actions, and much more without interrupting what you’re doing.

Core Features

In most cases, DynamicLake Pro works like the Dynamic Island on an iPhone. However, because this is a third-party app, you get way more integration options than Apple would ever allow. The best part? DynamicLake Pro is so well-designed that it starts interacting with your Mac from the Lock Screen itself.

Here’s a quick look at some things you can do with DynamicLake Pro.

# DynaGlance

DynaGlance converts the notch area into an overview widget for your day. Because DynamicLake Pro works with your Calendar and can get weather data, you get some nifty insights from this area. You get to interact with individual elements as well.

# DynaMusic

As you can guess from the name, DynaMusic lets you manage music playback from the notch. The lake will start the widget whenever you start playing music on a compatible device. DynamicLake Pro also offers extensive customization, letting you control how the widget behaves and blends into your desktop.

Recent updates also introduced queue management and smoother playback animations, making DynaMusic feel more like a built-in media controller than a floating widget.

# Live Activities, Calls & Meetings

One area where DynamicLake Pro has improved dramatically since our original review is real-time activity tracking. Recent versions introduced Live Activities, allowing ongoing events to remain visible around the notch area in a way that feels much closer to the iPhone experience.

LakeCall

The app now also supports incoming call and meeting notifications from services such as FaceTime, Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Instead of relying solely on standard macOS alerts, these events can appear directly through the DynamicLake interface, making it easier to notice calls while working in full-screen apps.

# DynaClip & DynaDrop

DynaClip creates an easily accessible space where you can keep important files and folders. Adding files to the clipboard or removing them is super-easy, and you get search functions as well. DynaDrop, on the other hand, lets you drag and drop files into the lake for actions like sharing, conversion, etc.

# DynaConnect & DynaKeys

DynaConnect basically brings all those connection notifications into the notch area. It does not completely remove the macOS notifications, but you will know very well when you connect AirPods or other Bluetooth devices. DynaKeys, on the other hand, uses the lake interface to display media key changes.

DynaConnect

DynamicLake Pro now supports multiple-file drops, tighter Finder integration, and additional actions after dropping files into the lake. The updates make DynaDrop feel less like a novelty and more like a lightweight productivity utility for moving content around your Mac.

In addition to these, DynamicLake Pro can also take care of notifications that you receive. Thanks to the set of finer controls, you can decide which notifications are shown and how. The app offers a lot of customization options for each lake, allowing you to personalize how you interact with these widgets.

# The New Timer & Liquid Glass Mode

Two recent additions deserve a quick mention.

First, DynamicLake Pro now includes a dedicated Timer experience that lives directly around the notch, making countdowns and quick focus sessions far more visible than the standard macOS timer.

LakeTimer

Second, the developer introduced a Liquid Glass visual style inspired by Apple’s newer translucent interface designs. It gives the lake a softer, more fluid appearance and makes the effect blend more naturally into modern versions of macOS.

Setup

We found the setup to be super-simple. Sure, DynamicLake Pro needs a couple of permissions to work well on your Mac, but it retains its minimal nature for the rest of the journey. The app does not consume a lot of system resources despite integrating well with macOS and third-party apps.

We also noticed that newer versions have streamlined the onboarding process. Permission requests are explained more clearly, and most features become available after granting Accessibility and Notification permissions.

Pricing

DynamicLake Pro remains a paid macOS app at $13.99 and is still positioned as a premium utility rather than a casual customization tool. While there is no traditional free trial, the developer continues to offer a 30-day refund policy, which effectively gives users a way to test the app with less risk.

Compared with many Dynamic Island-style utilities for macOS, DynamicLake Pro now stands out less for the visual gimmick and more for the breadth of features it has accumulated. Live activities, meeting notifications, advanced file handling, customizable notifications, timers, and external-display support make it feel considerably more mature than when we first tested it.

Recent releases also improved external display support, making DynamicLake Pro more practical for users who spend most of their day connected to a monitor.

Our Take

After revisiting DynamicLake Pro several months after our original review, the biggest surprise is how much the app has expanded beyond the initial “Dynamic Island for Mac” concept. The notch interaction remains the headline feature, but the newer versions add genuinely useful touches such as live activities, meeting and call notifications, timers, smoother animations, and better file workflows through DynaDrop and DynaClip.

The idea of turning the MacBook notch into something useful may have started as a novelty, but DynamicLake Pro has steadily matured into one of the more polished customization utilities available for macOS. While it still depends on accessibility permissions and occasionally exhibits minor visual quirks after major macOS updates, its rapid development and growing feature set make it much easier to recommend today than when we first reviewed it.
