Setup

Starting with the download is quite straightforward; all you need to do is visit the official page of AOMEI Partition Assistant. Navigating through the website is also easy, and you can download all different version setup files by heading to the “Downloads section.”

The free version of the AOMEI Partition Assistant is available to download straight from the home page. However, the paid version setup files are available in the Downloads – Demo section.

Once you’re happy with the demo version, you can access the full version by purchasing a registration key. If you’re not satisfied with the specific version of AOMEI Partition Assistant, try other versions or head back to the free version without issues.

Coming to the installation, we had no issues installing it on our device, and it is similar to every other software installation. The setup file covers the complete installation; you only need to click the “Install Now” button to begin the installation.

While we installed it on our device, the installation was very quick, and once the installation was done, the AOMEI Partition Assistant loaded up, and we were greeted with the home screen.

What it’s like to use

The design of the AOMEI Partition Assistant interface is very simple, and its biggest strength is its functionality. When it comes to the color scheme, it is consistent throughout the software with a blue and white color combination.

The color scheme feels pleasing to the eye, and all the icons associated with each tool/feature match perfectly, making each one instantly recognizable. Coming to usability, AOMEI Partition Assistant’s interface is relatively easy to use. However, it might take time to get used to everything as multiple tools/features are displayed on the interface.

We started exploring the entire interface to get used to the software and ensure everything was clear. The AOMEI Partition Assistant home screen features almost everything, and each feature has a dedicated window, making it easier to use.

Even though the interface is great, we felt room for improvement. Starting with the color scheme, it would be easier to use if it featured a dark mode. On the other hand, all the sections are fixed, and there is no support for customization. However, the left bottom section updates according to the disk selected, which is appreciated.

What makes it stand out

There are multiple reasons for considering AOMEI Partition Assistant, and here are some key elements that made it stand out from the rest of the disk management tools in its segment.

#1 Wide partition management tools

The tools offered by AOMEI Partition Assistant aren’t limited to partitioning needs, and a wide range of tools are provided for every possible need associated with managing the disks.

tools

From basic to complex partitioning operations, AOMEI Partition Assistant got you all covered. The flexibility of offering various partition operations according to the disk type makes it reliable and suggestible to others.

To test the ability and reliability of AOMEI Partition Assistant, we have done a few basic to critical partition operations on our disks, and here is our call on the performance.

Merge partitions

The Merge Partition is a complex partition operation; if noticed, it isn’t provided in the Windows Disk Management Utility tool. With AOMEI Partition Assistant’s Merge partition tools, merging partitions is straightforward.

merge

To merge the partitions, we had to select the partitions we wanted to merge and provide the tool with a target partition. It started merging the partitions by providing everything needed to the merge partition tool.

The total time taken for the merge operation is slightly longer than expected. Considering the disks selected for the merge were large, we had no complaints about the time the process took to finish.

On the bright side, there was no data loss, and all files were intact. Once the merge operation was successfully done, there was no need to restart, and the changes were reflected immediately.

Split partitions

Split Partition is a basic partition operation that Windows offers through the Disk Management Utility Tool. With AOMEI Partition Assistant splitting a partition is easy, and the best part is that you get to adjust the slider and create a new partition based on your requirement.

split

If you remember splitting a disk on the Disk Management Utility Tool, the process was lengthy. You need to manually enter the size of the Partition and format the newly generated Partition to create a new volume.

However, with the AOMEI Partition Assistant, all the additional steps are eliminated, and once the slider is adjusted, it starts splitting up the Partition. Similar to the merge operation, AOMEI Partition Assistant took its sweet time splitting the Partition, which felt unnecessary for such a basic operation.

However, on the bright side, once the entire operation is done, a new volume is generated and is ready to use.

Clone partition

Partition Clone Operation is another complex operation we have performed on our disks using the AOMEI Partition Assistant. Unlike other software in its segment, AOMEI Partition Assistant allows users to clone the Partition quickly or clone sector by sector.

clone

To test the ability of the AOMEI Partition Assistant, we performed both approaches and are happy with the results. Starting with the “Quick Clone Partition,” performed as described and migrated all the data without data loss.

We have noticed that the time taken for this quick partition clone operation is multiple times faster than the traditional copy-paste method. However, the sector-by-sector clone approach took forever, but on the bright side, there was no data loss on their approach either.

Clone disk

Disk Clone Wizard is one of the unique features offered by AOMEI Partition Assistant. With this feature, we could clone our Hard disk and noticed that every file had been migrated successfully without any data loss. We suggest using the “Clone Disk Quickly” option to avoid unnecessary time consumption by cloning the unused sectors.

We have noticed that the time consumed by the “Clone Disk Quickly” option is slightly less than the conventional copy-and-paste method, but it would have been better if it had been much quicker.

Apart from that limitation, we have found multiple uses for this feature. For instance, we used this feature best by replicating some of our old hard disks that were about to fail without data loss.

Recover lost or deleted partition

AOMEI Partition Assistant’s Partition Recovery Wizard helps recover the lost partitions unless they were not formatted/overwritten after deletion. This feature is exclusive and can be considered a complex operation.

recovery

We have used this operation to see if we could recover a partition we lost earlier due to bad sectors after upgrading to Windows 11. The lost partition had some important documents, and we weren’t sure about the parent volume from which it was created.

The Partition Recovery Wizard offers two approaches – Fast and Full search, and we had no luck recovering the lost Partition with the Fast search. However, using the full search, we could recover our lost Partition without data loss, but this approach’s downside is time-consuming.

#2 Flexible partition/disk conversion

Another reason for considering AOMEI Partition Assistant for our partition needs is its flexibility. With support for different partition styles, such as MBR and GPT, it has turned easier to work with various storage devices, such as hard drives, SSDs, and USB flash drives.

Here are some tools offered by AOMEI Partition Assistant that depict its flexibility, and here is our call on these tools.

ntfs

Convert disk between MBR and GPT

We have always wanted to change the partition style of our disk from MBR to GPT without losing any data. Even though Windows offers partition-style conversion through the conventional command prompt approach, there is a high possibility of data risk, and large data backups must be taken.

However, AOMEI Partition Assistant covers these limitations by providing a dedicated tool. The best part is that the partition-style conversion can be made without deleting the partitions or wiping the drive.

While we attempted to convert our disk partition style to GPT using AOMEI Partition Assistant, we noticed that the time taken was similar to the command prompt. However, we didn’t have to go through all the complex steps and the need for a backup.

It would have been better if the conversion was quicker than the conventional command prompt method. On the bright side, we are happy that no data loss has occurred.

Convert partition between FAT32 and NTFS

NTFS is an advanced file system and an upgrade over FAT32. We have been trying to convert the disk file system on our old PCs to NTFS for a long time. Even though the conventional file system conversion through “Disk Management” and “Command Prompt” is possible on Windows, they result in data loss.

The conventional “Disk Management” is quicker than the conversion through AOMEI Partition Assistant, but we lost all the data on the disk. We could save the data on the disk by using the Command Prompt and going through a hard time using commands, but considering it is easier on AOMEI Partition Assistant, we never tried it.

Using AOMEI Partition Assistant, we had to select the disk and click “Convert it to NTFS” from the drop-down that appears by right-clicking. Once we clicked “Apply,” the process started, and we could convert our disk to NTFS without losing any data.

Migrate OS to SSD

We have been trying to upgrade our PC from HDD to SSD as it was getting slower, and the boot time has gradually increased. As it requires a fresh installation to migrate OS from HDD to SSD, we have been delaying it.

Performing a fresh installation requires re-installing drivers and programs, which is time-consuming. To make it quick and avoid all the excess work, we have approached AOMEI Partition Assistant and used Migrate OS to SSD tool for our purpose.

We started installing the SSD on our PC and proceeded with the Migrate OS to SSD tool. It was easy, and we had to choose an unallocated space on your SSD as the target location, and the rest of the process was carried out automatically.

Once everything was done, our device restarted, and the Windows was loaded through the SSD. We are happy with this tool for making the migration easy, but we wished for more guidance and a detailed walkthrough, considering it is a complex task and a minor mistake can lead to data loss and make the device unusable.

#3 Useful extra tools

Apart from the wide collection of partition tools, AOMEI Partition Assistant has multiple unique tools that come in handy with disk operations.

Windows and other 3rd party software similar to AOMEI Partition Assistant don’t offer these features and are found not to have a good collection of unique tools. Here are some of the features that felt unique for us and how did they help us with our disk operations.

Disk defrag

Disk Defrag is responsible for reorganizing the data stored on the hard drive. With the disk not defrag for a long time, it results in slower read and writes operations. Like the PC Cleaner, we had no complaints with the Disk Defrag tool as it did a great job defragging our disks.

defrag

After the disk defragging, we performed a Disk Speed test and noticed a minor jump in the read and write speeds. Our favorite part with this tool is the ability to schedule the disk defrag according to your convenience.

Data recovery

AOMEI Data Recovery is yet another unique feature offered by AOMEI Partition Assistant, where the data that is deleted or lost files can be easily restored irrespective of the event.

We have tried using the AOMEI Data Recovery and are astonished at how well it can restore the files. On reviving a specific disk, we noticed it successfully restored files deleted many months ago.

The restoration process is straightforward; we restored some deleted files by selecting them and clicking the “Restore” button. It is good to see that it supports different types of drives, and we were able to use it to full on all our disks.

Rebuild MBR

Recently we noticed one of our PCs failing to boot and realized it was due to a damaged Master Boot Record (MBR). So we ejected the hard disk, installed it on our working PC, and started rebuilding the MBR through AOMEI Partition Assistant.

We had to select the disk and run it through the “Rebuild MBR” tool. The only thing we had to set for this process manually was providing the type of MBR for the OS on the disk.

To our surprise, the rest of the process was automatic, and the AOMEI Partition Assistant did a great job rebuilding the MBR within a few minutes. Once the process was finished, we installed it back on the device with a boot issue, which booted just fine.

#4 Affordable pricing

Yet another significant reason for AOMEI Partition Assistant to stand out is its affordable pricing. We have tried and tested the Free and Professional versions of the AOMEI Partition Assistant and realized that many features are restricted on the free version.

There are no major changes between the Professional and other paid editions, which we realized after installing the demo versions. There is nothing else to look out for except a few additional features and support for more simultaneous device connections.

We suggest comparing all editions beforehand and purchasing the edition that matches your requirements. Here is a simple comparison between all editions and their pricing with a few key factors.

The cons

No software is made perfect, and AOMEI Partition Assistant does come with a fair share of cons. Here are some limitations we have felt while using the AOMEI Partition Assistant.

  • The interface doesn’t offer customization and would have been more appealing with the dark theme.
  • Even though each tool performs very well and works as described, operating time is slow.
  • The standard version is unworthy as most of its features can be achieved through conventional methods.
  • There are no significant improvements in the higher editions, which are quoted at a very high price.
  • Customer support is poor on the Standard and Professional editions, so expect a delay. It is better to follow the tutorials than rely on customer care.

The bottom line

After diving deep into the world of partition management software, we can confidently say that AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional Edition is a gem that stands out. It’s not just handy – it’s a must-have for anyone looking to take control of their disk operations.

Whether you’re a basic or advanced user, this software offers a wealth of features that cater to your needs. The intuitive interface and support for multiple tools make the entire process a breeze, even for beginners. Now, we know what you’re thinking – what about the price?

While the Standard Edition might leave you wanting more, and the other paid editions can be a tad expensive, we’ve got a winner here – the Professional Edition. With its all-encompassing functionality, this version of AOMEI Partition Assistant is a clear choice.

In conclusion, we urge you to give AOMEI Partition Assistant a free try. It’s not just a good option, it’s arguably the best partitioning tool on the web. And with its fair price, enhanced performance, and superior customer support, you’ll be glad you did.
